Libraries Going Mobile with Drupal

I gave this 20-minute presentation for Drupal IG at ALA 2011.

Abstract:

With the explosion of handheld technologies available to students, researchers, and the general public, libraries tend to need a mobile presence almost as much as they need a web presence at all. Drupal offers quick, easy solutions for taking a website mobile, but each new solution comes with performance costs, and each new mobile technology must be carefully integrated. This presentation will detail the top three methods by which site builders can turn a regular Drupal website into a mobile-optimized site. Benefits and drawbacks of each tested method will be given. Trends in mobile optimization for library websites will be reviewed as they apply to Drupal and theming. Finally, the Drexel Libraries’ mobile-optimized site will be shown, with brief details on the procedure and effectiveness of this exciting feature.
